Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
In 2011 the Memorandum of Understanding with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) was signed in the scope of the Grand Challenges program which aims at search to find innovative solutions for global health and development problems. Therefore, this partnership has the objective of increasing the participation of Brazilian researchers in the calls for proposals launched by this program. As such, two activities were defined:
· Support
the dissemination of the Grand Challenges calls for proposals to the Brazilian
academic community.
· Additional support by the FAP of 50% to 100% of the BMGF support amount to Brazilian researchers who have an approved project in the international call for proposal and 25% to 50% to calls for proposals exclusive to Brazilian researchers.
In this partnership 21 FAPs participate in the partnership.
Regarding the international calls for proposals, 12 Brazilian researchers were considered eligible to receive the additional support from the FAP of their state from 2011 to today.
Besides the international call for proposals, three calls for proposals exclusive to Brazilian researchers were launched, two in 2018 and one in 2020. These activities were launched jointly with the Brazilian Ministry of Health and CNPq.
